Welcome to the 2013 PGA Tour Players’ Devotional. Four years ago, my caddy, Joel Stock, and I realized that our first priority each day was to glorify and honor God. We found that this is the best way to experience God’s peace and presence each day, and is a reminder that God is truly in control.
This is the system we use to approach each week: Two hours 20 minutes before our tee time, we prepare our hearts by reading this Devotional and spending a few moments in prayer.
Joshua 1:8 tells us we are to meditate on “this book of law day and night.” We believe we are being obedient as we tear-out each new Devotional page, slip it in our yardage book and carry the message with us throughout the day. This has not only made a great impact on us, but has touched the lives of other players as well. Because this has become such an integral part of all our lives, we have chosen to ask other players to write a Devotional that they would like to share as a way to express what God is teaching them as they walk through life on the PGA tour.
One of God’s biggest blessings for me on tour is to share life’s experiences and have fellowship with friends and family. Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us to “spur one another on towards love” and to “encourage one another.” The game of golf and the game of life have many similarities. God has used the game of golf to teach me much about life. He is continually showing me that its not about learning to pray more or to depend on God more in order to be more prosperous in golf, but it is more about the fact that God is in the business of loving me, and He wants me to love and experience him, not for success or prosperity, but for the truth that he has created us to be in relationship with him.
This realization is awesome and deeply humbling! It is with a grateful heart that I invite you to walk the greens with us this year, whether it be the greens of the tour or the greens of life. I pray that you will be blessed with greater joy and abundance in knowing, loving and experiencing God in 2013.
